The fury of Glenda Jackson…
DID you see Hampstead and Kilburn MP Glenda Jackson tearing into the memory of Margaret Thatcher in a special House of Commons session aimed at paying tribute to the former PM this afternoon? She is clearly in feisty mood this week… as Conservative chairman Grant Shapps had already found out this week when he dared to write to her telling him how he will be tweeting all of the government’s achievements.
Glenda’s not a heavy Twitter user – but I don’t think that’s what annoyed her the most. Her quick, spiky reply tells him: ‘There’s no good news to broadcast here’. She writes that receiving Mr Shapps’s initial letter had caused her “considerable outrage”. Their letters are below for you to see in full. Like her performance in the House this afternoon, she doesn’t hold back.

Great letter, but Camden Council needs to come out like a number of other local authorities across the country, against evicting people in arrears due to the benefit cuts!
I’m afraid this is one occasion when action speaks louder than words!

Loved seeing Tory Mr Speaker Burcow slapping down Tory Baldry MP on “and I use the word advisedly ” an ‘attempted’ point of order … it’s called “democracy” and the Tories do not like it.

Subsequently, I watched the speeches when the Figureheads were present, Cameron and Osborne glowing with pride, every MP that grew up in an ex pit village or similar looked like a spare wheel at a party they don’t want to be at, that was of course those that attended.

Just recently Glenda Jackson abstained on Workfare which at best is indifferent to slavery [ in opposition anyway !] now this WILL effect living people, as for her words on Thatcher millions of us could have said the same……only with a true passion not playing to the audience,…”not whats said but who is saying it”.

Is it wrong when watching her speech I beamed with joy? and a strange pride?
I grew up in a pit village and many of the things she described like plaster hanging off the walls, having to raise money for basic supplies and a playground being nothing but concrete and you had to bring your own entertainment.
She summarized everything a person in a position of comfort and isolation has never experience and is unwilling to do so while criticising the poor.
To emulate what Teddy McNabb put, she spoke with a passion, reality and sense.
And to anyone who says the youth were not alive when thatcher reigned, heres the facts:
When she was booted out of power her destructive actions and their consequences did not simply disappear with her. They lingered and continue even gaining potency, affecting generations to come.
And many of those “that cannot know” know all too well as the families a decade or more on from her departure were still trying to pick up the ruins. They in fact know all too well.

well done Glenda, i call for her to become prime minster she will not let the people of this country suffer. we were given the nhs because of the workers sacrifice during the wars, millions died due to toffs who were put in positions of authority who had no idea what they were doing but killing their own solders. now they are doing it again to the public. The reason the country is in a mess is due to the government privatising everything they owned due to pathetic poor management, like many mp’s who have no idea what they are doing. If these mp’s were working in propper jobs they would all be sacked due to incompetence, just like the banks losing all our money, then getting their bonuses and profits from the tax payer, so wheres our money back as the slandered 17% interest they charge us then? as they charge us then they owe us as its our money used……so wheres our interest payment from that then?

If Only there were more like you we would not be where we are, things are going to get a lot worse I think but please be as outspoken as possible tv time radio time newspaper articles ect. Many (like me ) have lost faith in politics altogether because we don’t hear from politicians like you enough. Thank you for restoring a spark of hope that there CAN be a better tomorrow.

The most worthwhile, heartfelt and honest speech I’ve heard from parliament in a long, long time. Well done Glenda, credit where it is due. I’m know you weren’t playing to any kind of audience, but either live or on catchup you boosted the spirit of thousands around the country I’m sure when they saw and heard you. If you were the MP in my constituency you’d get my vote in an instant. Trouble is we need so many more like you to counter the selservative blather.

Glenda Jackson for Prime Minister. How amazing it is that just by speaking a truth an MP stands so high above the shoulders of the other parliamentary members. Just shows how shitty politics is. Still well done GJ.

I go back to my earlier post:
Men, women, children and community organisations will be lobbying Camden’s full council meeting tomorrow evening (6-7pm) in protest over Camden Council’s decision to evict households in debt due to the benefit cuts unlike a number of other local authorities who have taken a much more decisive stand on this issue!!!!!!!
This is an issue where Glenda Jackson’s personal intervention could make a real difference to the lives of many of her constituents. This is about more than just a speech, this is about making a real difference, before it’s too late for many households in Camden and beyond!
