The Christmas hecklers

Vodpod videos no longer available.

EVERYBODY had lots of fun the weekend before last when the Christmas lights were turned on in Highgate Village. Well, almost everybody.

The ‘grassroots’ campaign group Reign [sic] In Christmas have revealed their work that night with a film posted to Facebook. It shows them heckling TV presenter Alex Zane as he led the countdown to the big switch on near Pond Square. ‘Do it in December’, they chant… and then start counting upwards as Zane counts down from ten.

Releasing links to the footage on Twitter, the group say they turned up at the event in protest at the lights going on (and lots more Christmassy stuff everywhere else too) before the calendar had even reached December 1. One man’s scroogey spoilsports will no doubt be another’s folk heroes. You can read more about them at the Facebook group: Reign In Christmas… and follow them on Twitter @ReignInXmas as they try to get their anti-xmas song into the charts.

  1. Hmmm, I’m torn.

I’m 100% with them on the issue, but it also seems like bad manners. One of the reasons I don’t appreciate Xmas creeping into the rest of the year is it seems rude – don’t fight fire with fire people!
