Happy New Year, blogging holiday over…

AFTER the shooting of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona at the weekend and the row over Sarah Palin and co’s bullet lingo, it’s easy to dismiss it all as those kerazy Americans and their guns. I mean where else in the world would cartoon crosshairs be aimed at a political opponent before an election?

…apart from, that is, Islington South and Finsbury. Emily Thornberry copped the crosshair treatment (below) on Guido Fawkes’s blog last year. There were probably subtler ways for her opponents to suggest Conservatives tactically voting with the Lib Dems in that constutuency could have increased the chances of her losing her seat in the Commons.
