The small world of law: ‘Sadiq went the extra mile for clients’
WHILE the Labour shakers at Camden Town Hall are pushing for Tessa Jowell, new Holborn and St Pancras MP Keir Starmer is endorsing Sadiq Khan to be be the party’s mayoral candidate instead.
“I first came across Sadiq as a young lawyer when I was a barrister. Even then, I could see that Sadiq went the extra mile for his clients,” he wrote last week in the New Statesman.
It’s a small world for legal eagles, one of the clients on Sadiq’s case list back in the day was a chap called Maajid Nawaz, then being held in an Eygptian jail, a ‘prisoner of conscience’ according to Amnesty International. Nawaz went on to stand for the Lib Dems in neighbouring Hampstead and Kilburn and could be seen exchanging pleasantries with Keir in the Somers Town sports centre during that long election count night back in May.
