LORD Bell today reveals one of the ideas for a Conservative poster which hit the cutting room floor back in the day. The marketing man who made his name at Saatchi and Saatchi, and advising Margaret Thatcher, is found talking in The Times about how he is wary of negative campaigning amid the apparent public hesitancy towards Ed Miliband’s personal style and appearance.
He recalls: “We had this great poster worked out. It showed Michael Foot, duffle coat, stick, walking bent over Hampstead Heath and the slogan was: ‘Even pensioners are better off under the Conservatives’. But Margaret ruled it out straight away.” Mrs T was a softie after all.
