H&K: Emily from Blackheath seeks to replace Glenda from Blackheath

THE Lib Dems have got in first and chosen a candidate for the Hampstead and Kilburn parliamentary seat currently held by Glenda Jackson, one of the contests left finely poised at the last election after a three way argument. Emily Frith came through the selection process on Tuesday night, private hustings followed by a membership vote.

The idea for the early choice is to get involved in the long game and try, where possible, to build on foundations laid by Ed Fordham, albeit with a fresh face. Fordham, as much as his Labour rivals seek to dismiss his relevance to the 2010 vote, was a close third.

On the campaign trail, Ed fed into the not uncommon opinion that Glenda was not seen in the constituency enough. We were reminded that the Labour MP lived, not in NW3, but in Blackheath, south London… which is funny when you look at Emily’s social media bio: “Part time charity policy and comms consultant, part time Blackheath mum.”

If only Glenda was standing again, she could get the Northern Line up with Emily.
