A mangalore wants your vote
I ONLY needed to read the plot summary on IMDB to realise that ‘The Fifth Element’ probably wasn’t a movie aimed at a sci-fi sceptic like me: ‘In the colourful future, a cab driver unwittingly becomes the central figure in the search for a legendary cosmic weapon to keep Evil and Mr Zorg at bay’. Mr Zorg, indeed.
But the 1997 film became a bit of a cult favourite – and what wonderful trivia comes through from Tory sources today: Apparently, through a friend of a friend, Hampstead Town council by-election candidate Simon Marcus scored a part as an extra behind Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman. Don’t go through it frame by frame, you won’t spot him… he’s a Mangalore, you see, and part of the Mangalore army of alien things who don’t like Willis much*.

I trust he hasn’t been wearing the costume door to door on the election beat in the last couple of weeks!
* IN THIS CASE NOT THE COMBINED CINEMA PAYING AUDIENCE OF ‘HUDSON HAWK’ AND ‘LOOK WHO’S TALKING TOO’
Quite a lot of harsh – and personal – comments flying between the Tories and Lib Dems in Hampstead – I wonder what the voters think, given they are in power together “in the national interest” in Westminster.
