Representing every single black person in Britain

AS posted yesterday, one of the great laments of the nonsense-storm around Diane Abbott’s tweet was that hardly anybody wrote about what freelance journalist Bim Adewunmi was saying in the first place, an important point about how the ‘black community’ is clumped together in commentary and news reports as if every black person thinks as one and has been moulded by the same experiences.

Chris Morris made the same point – what? 15 years ago now – in Brass Eye. This screengrab of his mock news studio and an apolegtic community leader sums up the usual suspects syndrome of asking the same people on to news channels to discuss ‘race’ issues. Fifteen years ago, seems a long time… Our contacts books need to get bigger.
