HERE’S some Lib Dem proposals for new parliamentary constituencies for Camden… There is no call for Fortune Green to be brought back into Hampstead and Kilburn and the party wants to create an ‘Islington North and Kentish Town’ seat.
You only have half of the story about the Lib Dem proposals here. As was outlined verbally at the Boundary Commission hearing, the Lib Dems will later submit another set of proposals for boundaries across London. This will include some modest splitting of council wards across constituencies. A bit of flexibility would leave Barnet with three clean constituencies, and return Fortune Green with West Hampstead where it belongs. I hope the Boundary Commission will see sense and adopt this model – up to now they have insisted that parties should avoid proposals that splits wards, even if it forces anomalies such as Fortune Green being linked up with Finchley (hence the first set of proposals you set out above).
But you can get Fortune Green back into H&K without splitting wards. I’ve seen at least two sets of proposals that have WH and FG together. Granted, they don’t achieve the gerrymander of getting Camden Town with Primrose Hill into the constituency, but then, I guess you can’t have everything.

Now I’m not a psephologist but in my modest and humble opinion, the Lib Dems are an utter disgrace. They should be ashamed of any submission they put together and have no credibility to muse any further than they have on the democratic process.
The constituency review disenfranchises thousands not on the register (unregistered aren’t counted when the size of constituency is drawn up under new rules) and makes registration more difficult – straight off a rather convenient ‘win’ for the Tories. gifted by ‘new politics’ Nick Clegg.
This hurried, jumbled mess can barely be dignified as ‘proposals’ in Camden or anywhere else and is no less than the spoiled fruit of a powersharing deal cobbled together with the Tories over AV (which the Liberals also completely messed up – thereby setting electoral reform back another generation).
At the end of this process, the people will be further away from their MPs and councils, the link between many MPs and the councils delivering (and cutting) public services will be fragmented.
Lib Dems: please keep your incompetent hands to yourselves and don’t further subject people to the failed results of your amateurish handshaking with the Tories, who have completely and utterly outmanoeuvred you.: as they always were going to.
Glad I got that off my chest, I can eat lunch now.
Did my bit in front of the boundary commission hearing at Brent town hall today to keep Fortune Green united with West Hampstead, Belsize with Hampstead, Kentish Town with Cantelowes and Camden Town, and keep all three wards south of Euston Road together. But had to do it on my own…. Not one LibDem or Labour councillor from Camden had registered to give evidence…
Though it doesn’t look like Flick agrees with these proposals!

What I have done is to ask the community to make its views felt – more impressive than playing party games!

I’m sure your views carry the same weight as those of Conservative Central Office.
