Paper cuts

Guardian

SIDE by side on the letters pages, Chris Naylor, Camden’s Liberal Democrat housing chief, and Mike Katz, Labour’s loyal organiser in Hampstead and Kilburn, scrap it out in today’s Guardian.

It must have been exciting for Chris to see his letter surf to the top of national newspaper’s postbag, giving him the chance to extol the virtues of coaltions and praising himself and other senior councillors for the way Camden’s Lib Dem and Conservative pact has ‘worked well’.

Eyes right – and there’s Mike, undermining everything he says in the same edition. The coalition works well? What about the sale of council homes and cuts to computer centres.

Deuce?

It’s extraordinarily delusional that Naylor accuses Labour and the Tories of being in cahoots – when, readers will no doubt point out, that it’s the Lib Dems who run the Town Hall with the help of the Conservatives, as part of a coalition.

Oh, and ramming through cuts to UK Online, promting much community anger and walkouts of councillors from the Council Chamber at budget-setting slightly negates the point he’s making in para 2.
